Position: Quantitative Analyst, IT & Analyis at Energi Danmark
Employed since: April 2013
I worked at another energy company as a short-term trader. The energy industry is an exciting market, but I missed the analytical aspect, which is why my job at Energi Danmark is a good combination for me.
As a quantitative analyst, I use my knowledge of statistical and economic analysis to develop pricing models for a number of derivatives and spot prices. I disseminate and present large volumes of data to our power traders where I focus on speed and automation. I mainly work with time series econometrics and identify models that can handle high volatility. In addition, I spend much of my time in programs like R and SQL Management Studio. Because of my business sense from my previous experience as a power trader, I am also involved in the development of projects between the Trading Department and the IT & Analysis Department.
The key is to be outgoing. Besides being analytically strong, it is important to be open and to gather information which I can then convert into new models and programs that facilitate and automate workflows.
There is a high level of freedom to influence my own tasks as well as opportunities to take responsibility and talented colleagues to work with.
